Skateboarding is a sport in which a person rides a skateboard, a small narrow board mounted on wheels, to perform tricks, spins and jumps.

Skateboarding began in the 1940's in California and Hawaii where some surfers had the idea of taking the feeling riding the waves to riding the streets. They called it "sidewalk surfing".

From that humble beginning Skateboarding has developed in to a multi billion dollar market with its own lifestyle, culture and attitude. There are different types of skateboarding. Street, Transition or Vert, Park and Longboarding are some of the main types. Riders are continually inventing new tricks or combinations and that is what makes this such an exciting sport.

Skateboarding made its debut as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with "Street" and "Park" events held on newly designed courses.
