Nicknamed the Peach State and the Empire State of the South, Georgia became a State in 1732. One of the original 13 Colonies, it was named after King George II of Great Britain and it is the 24th largest state in terms of land area. The capital of Georgia is Atlanta. The Creek and Cherokee Nations lived in Georgia in the 1540s.

Situated in the southern part of the US, Georgia's regions include Metro Atlanta, the Classic Heartland, the Historic High Country, the Plantation Midlands and Coastal Georgia.

It was the 22nd state to enter the Union, joining on December 14, 1819. Some of the most famous landmarks here include the Centennial Olympic Park, Stone Mountain Park and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railray. Georgia is also home to the Chicken Capital of the World which is Gainesville.
