The European Day of Languages is celebrated on September 26 each year.

First proclaimed by the Council of Europe in 2001 its aim is to celebrate the linguistic diversity in Europe, promote the importance of lifelong language learning and encourage plurilingualism and intercultural understanding.

Many activities are organized across Europe on the day in schools and on television and radio to help encourage language learning and cultural understanding.

You are never to old to learn a language. It could help you make new friends.
