People of the Legends

Oban the Knowledge KeeperI have met many different people on my travels in your world. They have welcomed me as their guest and I have learned a little about how they live. These are the indigenous people of your world.

‘Indigenous’ means there is scientific proof that a group of people lived somewhere before anyone else did. Indigenous people have lived in some parts of the world for more than 40,000 years. They may also be called aborigines, first peoples, first nations or native peoples.

Sometimes indigenous families share common ancestors, and so belong to a specific clan or tribe. The ancestors of some tribes were Ancient people who knew how to irrigate the land to water their crops, build cities and live in harsh places like deserts.

They are ruled by people who settled there only recently, such as Europeans who travelled to America and Australia about 200 years ago and became rulers within only a few years.

Today indigenous people live in North and South America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and other islands in the Pacific Ocean). There are many different clans, tribes and cultures, but there are many similarities among them.

In my journal I have tried to paint a picture for you of some of the people of the legends. To help you understand something of their history, how they live today and their customs.
